Verifying Diamonds That Have Been Shown

Properly verifying diamond is a nonnegotiable standard. Failure to do this properly and consistently it will result in revocation of your Diamond Educator certificate. Your store may also have consequences for failure to comply with these procedures.

To show a diamond you must login with your associate ID and password. Then, show any diamond that comes out of the case using the Diamond Tasting Tool. This action causes the system to log the diamonds out on the back end. After each diamond tasting we must get another associate to double check the diamonds are in their proper lucite boxes. This must happen before the end of every day.

To verify a diamond, you must make sure that the diamond is firstly on the right spot on the smart diamond grids, secondly it is on in the right container with the lid and the base matching, and thirdly it is the right diamond.

There is a 3-way verification for verifying any diamond. All 3 of these must be completed on each diamond before we can verify it is the right diamond.

  1. GIA Inscription number: on almost every loose diamond there is a GIA inscription number on the girdle of the diamond this can been seen using a microscope
  2. Check the inclusions with the Smart Diamond Viewer and the loupe
  3. Weigh the diamond making sure the diamond matches the listed weight to the nearest 100th of a carat
