Step One: The Blind Tasting
The goal of this step is to show people the visual differences of different quality diamonds. All while helping them find what they think is the most beautiful.
It also acts as a time for the Diamond Educator to build trust with the customer, getting to know them and finding out their needs. It’s important to talk to the customer in this step while logging out diamonds to build rapport and ask key questions.
All Diamond Tastings start with round diamonds, even if the customer is looking for a different shape. The reason for this is we can show the difference between qualities easier with round diamonds because we have a lot more qualities to compare and contrast.
The Blind Tasting:
1. Start by logging into the Diamond Bar website with your associate login and password.

2. Select 3 similar sized round diamonds from each of the 3 collections (Spark, Harmony, and Legacy) on the Smart Diamond Grids. As we take the diamonds from the grid, we always pull them up on the Diamond Tasting Tool but do hit the compare button yet.

3. Once you’ve selected your three diamonds, take each diamond from the Lucite containers, cleaning each one with a gem cloth. Place them the Tasting Tray in order: Spark, Harmony and Legacy. Use the Lucite containers as a place holder to help you keep track of the loose diamond you’re showing.

As you are doing this explain to the customer that diamonds are “mother nature’s artwork.” Each one is special and different and the goal here is to help you find what you like best and find the diamond that speaks to you.
4. Once the three diamonds are out on the tray ask your customer to look at them closely and pick their favorite with their naked eye. Encourage them to pick up the tray and get a better look. Then take a display tray and block out the “jewelry store lights.” Let your customer know you’re doing this so they can get a good view of the diamonds in different lighting conditions. As we do this, always reassure the customer that there is no right or wrong answer. Diamonds are little pieces of art, and just like the person wearing the diamond, it is the imperfections and personality that make each one beautiful.

5. After the customer picks their favorite diamond with the naked eye, hit “compare” on the diamond tasting tool to bring up the diamond viewer. This gives the customer the ability to see the diamonds the way a gemologist would see them before making the final decision as to which one is their favorite.

Note: by hitting “compare” this logs out the diamonds in the system under your associate number to be reconciled at the end of the day.
6. Once the customer picks their overall favorite, click the heart on the diamond tasting tool and then move to the next step.
